La Vacca History

History

Unlike Canadian, British, and American records, Italian records are not as fruitful when it comes to obtaining genealogical information (at least this has been the case for me). So, the family history of the La Vacca line is limited.

What is known is that Imperia La Vacca was born July 14th, 1936 in Castropignano, Molise, Italy. Her father, Salvatoré worked as an Electrician and as a Police Officer. While her mother, Angiolina, was a homemaker. Imperia was one of seven children (the eighth child, Erenio, was stillborn). She later immigrated to London, Ontario, Canada on July 11th, 1956, when she was 19 years old.

While in Canada, she worked various jobs: a seamstress, in a kitchen cooking for the blind, and at a drycleaners.

She married Mosé Vendramin on May 28th, 1958 at St. Mary’s Church in London, Ontario. With Mosé, she had seven children.

Imperia’s parents were Salvatoré and Angiolina. Salvatoré was born April 1st, 1898 in Torre Maggiore, La Puglia, Italy. His parents are unknown, but he did have two sisters: Giuseppina and Nicoletta.

Salvatoré faught in World War I and received a gold medal for saving a town.

Angiolina was born Angiolina Tavani in Boiano, Campobasso, Italy. From the immigration records from Ellis Island and the Marriage Certificate for Angiolina’s sister Ida, I learned that Angiolina’s parents were Pasquale Tavani (a pasta maker) and Cristina Placenta.

Angiolina had two siblings: Ida Melloni (neé Tavani) and Dominica Manzara (neé Tavani). Both of which immigrated to London, Ontario, while Angiolina remained in Italy for the duration of her life.

Prior to getting married, Angiolina worked as a nanny for a doctor, but once married, she became a homemaker.
